Delaying the Gray...

Ok, I am 56. And like everyone else my age, my hair is graying. Yep, I said it. I am owning it. I mean I haven’t really seen my natural hair color since 1982, wait maybe 1981. When was Reagan president? I am sure now, I looked it up, definitely haven’t seen my natural hair color since 1981. Thanks Sun In! Sun In came out in 1976, and I waited five whole years to try it. Which is likely a good idea since I was only 7 in 1976. Ok, wait, I had to use google to figure that out. I mean, if I was born in 1970, this age thing would be so much easier to calculate! Fuck, but I am glad I was born in the 60s. And 1969, I am just going to give that a big FUCK YES!
Anyway, where am I going with this? Buckle up, I have no idea...
So I color my hair every three weeks. Yep, every three weeks I go in and de-gray my hair. I guess I am cool with being 56, a bit more than I am cool looking 56.
I believe that each woman, or man for that matter, gets to make their own choice about how they age, when they age, and what lengths they are willing to go through to delay it.
This is where I live:
Dye the hair
Work out like a fiend
Get 8 hours a sleep per night
Drink water
And, on occasion, although I have stopped for the last year, botox and filler.
I may go back to those things, but I don’t really want to for a variety of reasons (It doesn't last, it is expensive and I don't want to look like I am in a constant state of surprise).
So I am doing my best to age with some grace and dignity and comfort. It is my body and life and I should get to decide how this process goes for me, how I feel about it and what I am willing to do about it.
Last week I had my monthly appointment with my BFF, Hayley, who happens to also be a hair magician We began the ever recurring discussion of what I should do about my gray. I mean I have earned them, for sure. I think my son's name is on most of them...he is quite proud of this fact, actually.
But do I want to move in the direction of less golden blonde and more towards gray/platinum blonde? We talk about it every fucking month.
And the truth? No I do not want to move in that direction. But, I also do not want to be 80 years old and still be dyeing my hair. No thanks. Not for me. So when do I transition to grey/blonde?
Fuck if I know!
But we got a little further down the path this last time and I actually invited Chat to give me a couple of photos to see what I would look like...(I will post those in a minute...)
And I decided to move in the direction of lighter, which will blend the gray better than my current color. At least, that is what I thought last week. This week I am vacillating...
I welcome your opinions, but please be warned, I am going to do what I want regardless. I may ask you for your opinion, but I always end up doing what feels right to me. So yeah, you might think, “why bother commenting?” And all I can say, is "I feel ya!"
So here I am at 56, accepting a little deeper this aging process and my relative comfort with it. I do not want to rail against it but I do not want to completely surrender either. So I remain at the place where I am considering options, monthly.
Maybe next month will be the month...probably not.
I most likely will just keep considering options until Hayley throttles me...
Which I am sure she feels like doing a great deal of the time.
Again, still...
