The Land of Countless Waterfalls...

I have been to Hawaii a few times, to all the islands.  And I have seen amazing waterfalls that plunge depths that awe and wow.  But I can tell you that none of that compared to what I witnessed in New Zealand.  There were so many waterfalls in Milford Sound that I could not count them all.  And they plunged for miles not meters.

I hope I never lose my amazement for things like rainbows and waterfalls.  I hope that I have the reaction I did in Milford Sound, a consistent and unremitting joy at each and every one I saw.  This almost childlike happiness with each new discovery of water plummeting over the side of a cliff’s edge and descending down the mountain.

Life is better because waterfalls exist...this I know to be true.  I am not sure why water rushing to the edge of some piece of land and then over its precipice dazzles and shocks the joy right outta ya, but it does, at least for me, every single time.

I pray that I may never lose the joy and thrill I get from the natural world.  That I may always be happy and elated at things like sunrises, waterfalls, rainbows and sunsets.  I pray that I may arrive in my life in a place where I just get to observe nature doing her thing, every single day and have that be the main event of my life.

My time away where writing, reading, listening to music and driving around witnessing the natural world and all her glory was the best vacation...and something that I want to make the point of my life, instead of just an escape from it.

Now is not necessarily the time for that, yet.  But it is nice to know what I want and how I want to live.  Going to places like Milford Sound changes a person.  In all the best ways.  Makes life feel like it has more depth and breadth and sincerity and heart and soul.  I am not sure what waterfalls have to do with that, I just know they absolutely do.  There is magic in water that falls, I witnessed it, repeatedly.

There is something so astute to watch water plummet thousands of feet to a pool of crystalline blue water. Something happens to you that ruins you in the best possible way. I am altered because of waterfalls...I can't really explain it more than that. Being surrounded by a land that oozes drama and water just changes you in ways that take some time to reconcile...
